This Pandemic Plan is a comprehensive strategy that will enable the Body of Christ to stand ready and equipped to minister to the community in a time of crisis.
It is divided into three sections, the first "The Virus" contains information on the circulating viruses that world health officials have been watching for several years, including corona viruses, influenza viruses, and Ebola. You will understand their ability to mutate, and why these particular viruses are so deadly.
The second section "The Plan" provides guidelines and suggestions for as much as you wish to prepare and minister to your community. It encompasses strategies to prepare individually and as a Church Body. These include:
- Government mitigation plans
- Church and community mitigation strategies
- Ministering to a congregation when meetings are prohibited
- Pre-identifying and ministering to vulnerable people
- Coming alongside the medical community
- Setting up an alternative care facility
- Infection control
- Caring for the sick
- Proper protective precautions
- Caring for the workers
The third and final section titled "The Hope" gives ways to share the gospel of Jesus with practical ways to minister to those hurting during the disaster.

For over 15 years Wendy Gade has been researching viruses and writing pandemic plans. She first became interested in viruses that have the potential to cause a worldwide pandemic while studying to become a paramedic. She earned an academic award from "USA Today" for a technical paper “Avian Influenza and the EMS Healthcare Provider.”
While working in the healthcare community, she served on the Buncombe County Health Department’s “Vulnerable Populations Initiative Committee” as the representative for the faith-based community. The committee’s goal was to identify and ensure vulnerable people would be cared for in the event of a pandemic. Wendy’s role was to write and submit a plan to prepare churches for such an event. During this time the H1N1 (Swine Flu) Pandemic occurred. The work she did while serving on this committee was the beginnings of the book, “Pandemic Flu Plan for the Church, Ministering to the Community in a Time of Crisis.”
Before retiring, Wendy worked as an Emergency Medical Science Instructor, and for a time served as the Continuing Education Coordinator at a local community college. As an EMS Instructor, she had many opportunities to write the curriculum and teach on pandemic and disaster preparedness both at churches and at a college level.
Wendy lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina with her husband Marcus. It is her heart’s desire to help prepare the Body of Christ to safely minister spiritually and physically during difficult times.
