Caring for the Sick

Caring for the Sick

Studies have shown that even basic health care such as adequate water, food, and warmth can result in a much higher percentage rate of survival of a disease. During the 1918 Influenza, it was determined that many died simply because there was no one to look after the sick and provide them these basic essential needs.

This sections provides PDF documents and corresponding PowerPoint presentations explaining the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, along with the pathophysiology (the process of the disease). The "Caring for Sick" section provides guidance for properly and effectively care for the sick.

In addition, it has been determined that the complications of COVID-19, seasonal influenza, and HPAI H5N1 can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) which is caused by a cytokine storm. Studies done during the COVID-19 Pandemic have given rise to the use of over the counter (OTC) remedies and supplements to help prevent a cytokine storm. "How to Prevent ARDS" provides information on these studies.

Respiratory Anatomy and Physiology

Many who died from the 1918 Influenza, and those recently from the HPAI H5N1 virus succumbed through acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by a cytokine storm. This section presents the anatomy of the respiratory system and how it functions. This will help in how to recognize, treat, and prevent a cytokine storm.

Pathophysiology of H5N1 - Cytokine Storm

The H5N1 can trigger inflammatory proteins called cytokines leading to an overwhelming response called a "cytokine storm." This can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and a cascade of events ultimately resulting in multi-organ failure. This is a description of a cytokine storm caused by the H5N1 and its similarity to the 1918 Influenza.

Caring for the Sick

Studies have shown that even basic health care such as adequate water, food, and warmth can result in a much higher percentage rate of survival from a disease. Section 1 describes the signs and symptoms of the disease, as well as how to place the patient in the home. Section 2 provides guidance on treatment for complications that may arise with the illness.

How to Prevent ARDS

The HPAI H5N1 can cause Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) which is a severe, rapidly progressing form of respiratory failure caused by widespread lung inflammation. It is triggered by a cytokine storm and can lead to death. This section is based on studies performed during the COVID-19 pandemic to determine medicines with anti-inflammatory properties than can prevent ARDS.

     "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat;

I was thirsty,and you gave Me something to drink;

 I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me;
I was in prison, and you came to Me."
